Villar: Naga Airport expansion to boost Bicol trade, tourism

SENATORIAL candidate Camille Villar agreed with her fellow candidates that the expansion of the Naga Airport is necessary to boost trade and tourism in Bicol.

Speaking at a press conference in Camarines Sur on Friday, Villar cited how critical infrastracture is in the country’s development, especially into the improvement of airports.

“Actually, napakahalaga talaga ng infrastructure not just here in CamSur but throughout the whole country. So, napakagandang project niyan syempre sisiguraduhin natin na makasama siya doon sa P14-billion allotted for modernization of airports,” Villar said.

“But beyond that if kailanganin pa maybe they can explore PPPs, Private-Private Partnerships which they have in other airports to accelerate the growth and to finish it faster kasi naniniwala ako na, like everyone, in this province, malaki ang magagawa ng magandang airport para sa turismo and for additional jobs here in CamSur.

Backed with 15 years of experience in yhe private and public sector, Villar noted that in PPPs, private firms bring innovation, expertise and efficiency to public projects, often reducing costs and timelines.

For the Naga Airport, the current expansion plan is to extend the 1.3-kilometer (km) landing strip to 2 km to accommodate bigger aircraft such as the Airbus A320. The project aims to provide a big boost to Bicol’s trade and tourism.
