Alyansa para sa Bagong Pilipinas campaign manager, Navotas City lone district Rep. Toby Tiangco still viewed the administration slate’s performance in the just-concluded mid-term elections as a positive.
This, after only six out of the 11 Alyansa bets appear to be on their way to securing Senate seats in the upcoming 20th Congress–at least based on partial and unofficial poll results.
In most pre-election surveys, anywhere from eight to 10 Alyansa candidates were projected to win seats in the upper chamber.
“The objective of the Alyansa campaign was to rally support for the election of senators who could bring their competence and experience to the Senate and help the administration in its efforts to uplift the welfare of our kababayans,” Tiangco said in a statement Tuesday afternoon, May 13.
“In this regard, we consider the victory of most of our candidates a vote of confidence in the Bagong Pilipinas vision of progress where all Filipinos can live better lives with real economic opportunities for all,” he said.
The six Alyansa bets on the path to victory are ACT-CIS Party-list Rep. Erwin Tulfo, Panfilo “Ping” Lacson, Vicente “Tito” Sotto III, Senator Pia Cayetano, Las Piñas City lone district Rep. Camille Villar, and Senator Lito Lapid.
Tiangco says Filipinos’ decision to vote for the six “affirms our shared commitment to continue the country’s economic gains and preserve the momentum of growth”.
“We view this as a clear signal to move forward with greater urgency and focus, guided by the aspirations of our people and committed to addressing the issues that concern them the most,” the Alansya campaign boss said.
The Senate race will determine 12 of the 24 senators that will sit in the 20th Congress.
