Millennial Senator Camille Villar vows to champion mother and child protection, health and workers’ rights as she starts her first term at the Philippine Senate.
Villar filed the proposed Act to Establish A Cancer Medicine and Treatment Assistance Fund for Indigent and Underprivileged Filipinos.
The neophyte senator also seeks for the passage of the measure that would require all national, regional, and provincial government hospitals to establish, operate, and maintain a dialysis ward or unit in their respective hospitals. She also batted that the dialysis treatment be given free of charge to indigent patients.
“It is very hard if one finds out he or she is sick, especially when one needs chemo or dialysis. The treatments can take toll in the family’s overall well-being and financial standing. So, it very important the government extends these services, particularly for our underprivileged kababayans,” Villar said.
Meanwhile, Villar is also pushing for approval of measures that will support the labor sector, including the Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW).
Among Villar’s pet measures include the proposed Act Providing For Protection of the Remittances of Overseas Filipino Workers; and the Proposed Act Enhancing Workers’ Protection and Skills Development in the Course of Job Disruption due to Artificial Intelligence and Technological Advancements in Digital Economy, and for other purposes.
She also supports the Proposed Act Providing Discounted or Waived Fees and Charges to Indigent Job Seekers In The Issuance of Certain Pre-Employment Documents Issued by Government Agencies.
In support for her advocacy to promote mother-child health, Villar also filed the Proposed Act Safeguarding the Health of Filipino Mothers At The Time of Their Childbirth, Providing Mechanisms, Therefore, and For Other Purposes.
To ensure protection of children with special needs, Villar is herding the approval of the Proposed Act Providing For Comprehensive, Accessible, and Affordable Early Detection and Timely Intervention Services for Children with Special Needs.
Herself a mom, Villar also filed the Proposed Act Providing Protection for Children Using Internet.
Villar also filed the Proposed Act Providing For Free Freight Services in the Transportation of Relief Goods To Calamity-Stricken Areas; and the bill, which hopes to establish a “one town, one tourist attraction program” to promote tourism and sustainable economic development. ###
