Alyansa para sa Bagong Pilipinas senatorial candidate and House Deputy Speaker Camille Villar highlighted the role women play in improving the Philippine economy.
During her visit to Balanga, Bataan, on Thursday, Villar reiterated her support for women and vowed to push for measures that would uphold their rights and create more opportunities for them.
Villar also paid tribute to her grandmother, Nanay Curing, mother of former Senate President Manny Villar, who hails from Orani.
As a daughter, mother and a legislator, Villar said she understands the multiple roles that every woman plays in the household and the workplace.
n Congress, Villar pushed for the passage of the Pregnant Women Welfare Act and Equal Maternity Protection Act, seeking to provide benefits for pregnant women who are part of the informal economy.
Villar also pushed for passage of a measure that would provide free medical at hospitalization benefits for indigent women.
In Las Piñas, the lawmaker also spearheaded activities such as the “Nanay Fair”, which provided livelihood training, financial coaching and seminars for mothers in the city’s barangays.
