‘Green Bones’ walks home as the most decorated film of the night
The 8th Entertainment Editors’ Choice (The EDDYS) honored outstanding achievements in Philippine cinema on Sunday, July 20, with Green Bones emerging as the night’s top winner. The film earned five awards, including Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Actor.
Zig Dulay received Best Director for helming Green Bones, while Dennis Trillo claimed Best Actor for his role in the same project. The movie also took Best Cinematography and shared Best Supporting Actor honors through Ruru Madrid, who tied with Aga Muhlach for Uninvited.

“I hope you’re all doing okay,” Dennis began his speech in Filipino, addressing the crowd who braved the storm to attend the event. “Thank you so much for valuing the work we’ve done. Thank you to everyone behind the scenes and to those who continue to buy movie tickets. Thank you to my family, who serve as my inspiration.”

Marian Rivera was awarded Best Actress for Balota. Lorna Tolentino earned Best Supporting Actress for Espantaho, which also won Best Visual Effects.
“If I didn’t become an actress, I would’ve been a teacher. It’s my dream to be a teacher. While working on Balota, I had many realizations about my life. This is what my soul has been searching for—to do a film where I don’t have to worry about how I look. I just act based on the emotion and the scenes I need to portray,” Marian started her acceptance speech in the vernacular.
“Teachers—how they put their lives on the line to guard the nation’s votes—that’s not an easy job. I share this award with all teachers, not just for what they do during elections but for their everyday dedication to teaching and their tireless role as second parents to their students,” she continued, honoring educators and sharing the award with them.
Other winners included Under A Piaya Moon for Best Screenplay, Isang Himala for Best Musical Score, The Kingdom for Best Production Design, Topakk for Best Sound, and My Future You for Best Editing. The original theme song “Museo” by Eliza Maturan, also from My Future You, received the award for Best Original Theme Song.
Box Office Hero awards were presented to Kathryn Bernardo and Alden Richards (Hello, Love, Again), Vice Ganda (And The Bread Winner Is), Julia Barretto and Joshua Garcia (Un/happy for You), Piolo Pascual and Vic Sotto (The Kingdom), and Green Bones stars Trillo and Madrid. The recognition goes to performers whose films grossed more than P100 million.

Ogie Diaz was named this year’s Joe Quirino Award recipient. Veteran entertainment editor Crispina Belen was honored with the Manny Pichel Award. The Joe Quirino Award commemorates the legacy of the late columnist and TV host known for his prominence in the 1970s and 1980s, while the Manny Pichel Award is named after a respected broadsheet editor.
RS Francisco received the Isah V. Red Award, which honors individuals who support and inspire underprivileged Filipinos.

The ceremony, hosted by Alexa Ilacad, Darren Espanto, Kaila Estrada, and Kyline Alcantara, was held at the Ceremonial Hall of the Marriott Grand Ballroom in Pasay City. Mr. Fu and Alexa Miro served as red carpet hosts.
Pop Diva Kuh Ledesma and OPM icon and singer-songwriter Ice Seguerra also had special participation in the awards night, along with Jackie Lou Blanco, Arman Ferrer, Carla Guevara, and David Young.
A delayed telecast will air on Kapamilya Channel and Jeepney TV, with international streaming on iWantTFC starting July 27.
