Villar: Tourism, infra development key to Cordillera progress

Citing Benguet’s big potential, senatorial candidate Camille Villar vowed to push more projects that will further promote the province and the rest of the Cordillera Autonomous Region as a major travel destination in the country.

Speaking at the 113th Founding Anniversary of Itogon on Thursday, Villar expressed her admiration to its people, its rich history and natural resources.

She committed to continue projects that will promote progress in the region, noting how the completion of Labey-Lacamen Road Project in Tublay, Benguet and the Baguio-La Trinidad-Itogon-Sablay-Tuba-Tublay (BLISTT) Outer Ring Circumferential Road have eased the travel time between the northern areas of the Cordilleras to the Cagayan Valley Region.

Such roads make travelling from Cagayan Valley to Benguet more accessible, especially for local tourists who want to experience the beauty of the Atok Flower Gardens, Sagada Caves, and the La Trinidad Strawberry Farms, among other attractions.

Mt. Pulag, the third highest mountain in the Philippines, is located in the provinces of Benguet, Ifugao and Nueva Vizcaya.

Villar also cited the bypass road connecting Kennon and Loakan Airport, dubbed as “Great Wall of Baguio City,” providing easier access to major areas in the region.

She also vowed to continue projects spearheaded by her mother, Sen. Cynthia Villar, such as the grants for the construction of composting facilities in the eight of the 13 municipalities in the province.

“I promise you I am with you in pushing for your aspirations for CAR. I will be your voice in the Senate to ensure key projects would continue, not just in your region but across the country,” she said.

During her visit, Villar also met with Gov. Melchor Diclas, Vice Governor Rose Fongwan, Rep. Eric Yap, Buguias Mayor Dione Baucas, Kapangan Mayor Mayo Islay, Tuba Mayor Clarita Salongan, Atok Mayor Franklin Smith, Tublay Mayor Totoy Cosalan, Bakun Mayor Bill Raymundo, La Trinidad Mayor Roderick Awingan, Itogon Mayor Bernard Waclin, Kabayan Mayor Rex Aquisan, Kibungan Mayor Ed Nitron, and Sablan Mayor Alfredo Dacumos at La Trinidad, Benguet.
